Astound Technologies LLC and IMA receive Realcomm DIGI Award for Best Use of Technology in Commercial Real Estate
Chicago, IL, Realcomm Conference, June 23, 2009: Interactive Multimedia Artists’ Virtual Concierge system was cited as one of 2009’s most innovative uses of digital technology in the commercial real estate industry. The Virtual Concierge enables visitors to a hotel, or other commercial building, to receive service from an expert with the touch of a finger. Visitor locations are equipped with a Virtual Expert terminal, housing a touch-screen computer with integrated camera, connected to the Internet. Visitors that can’t find answers from the system’s information directory touch the screen for live two-way video assistance from an expert, who can be working from anywhere on the Internet.
“The idea of "virtual" customer service has been around for some time but the solutions haven’t been ready for primetime, stated Realcomm CEO and co-founder Jim Young. IMA has worked on improving the interface, the video technology, the back-end video switching and management platform, as well as smaller nuances such as kiosk design. The result is a well-designed, scalable, seamlessly working solution that will help companies maintain service levels with reduced staff, lower operating costs and go green by reducing travel.”
“We are very excited about Realcomm recognizing IMA’s accomplishment and giving us this award, it is very significant, said Skip Rodenbush, IMA Founder and CEO. Applications for the Virtual Expert in the commercial and corporate real estate industry are numerous, especially at a time when we are trying to do more with less, conserve natural resources, and make our operations more efficient and productive. Receiving the DIGI and the support of Realcomm will help us spread the word about what we have.”
One of the more compelling applications for real estate is the "virtual property manager” where major building departments can be communicated with from a lobby terminal or a tenant’s PC. Implementation of the “virtual property manager “ enables building operators to consolidate job functions and develop strategies that allow for a single manager to handle multiple properties with a high level of efficiency and effectiveness. Based on the size and scale of the portfolio, the building could also offer 7/24/365 "virtual" service to their tenant base, something no management company has yet to provide.
